  8. Det var en färggrann fågel, fångad ´out in the Wilderness´. Förstår att du velat ha mer tid till den/dem. Annars verkar fåglarna där vara rätt "okammade". *ler Ingvar

  12. When I click on your blog I am prepared to be wowed but this bird is ridiculous. I wonder, are there any little brown birds in Central America? Awesome stuff!

  14. Excellent photo of a gorgeous bird. I remember when I was in Guatemala years ago, before I was a birder, there were many Quetzal images in the weavings done by the native women.

This bird is the national bird of Guatemala and is listed as NR, near threatened. Here is the quote from the IUCN red list: "This species is listed as Near Threatened because it is suspected to be experiencing a moderately rapid population decline, owing to widespread deforestation. Monitoring is required to confirm the rate of decline, and the results could lead to uplisting to a higher threat category."

It seems that you were very lucky to see one!

Here is a link to my post from a couple of years ago if you want to see the Quetzal weaving.

  15. thanks for the link Larry. The wall haning is stunning. :)
I did not know it was Guatemalas National Bird. But of course information on a trip like mine is drowning you. And yet I think I was pretty prepared. One of our lodges was the Quetzals Paradise. The owner had painted walls and tables. On my Travel blog I am posting the journals from the trip. All except the first is in english. I give you the link to this day if you like to see it . :)

I love comments so please write something. I usually responds to everyone on their own blogs. But nowadays I often find it impossible to comment on many blogs or on Google+. Often the word verifications is unreadable. And after three times I give up. Other times the systems seems to think I am a spammer. Lots of bloggers loose comments that way. :( So, if you don´t see me comment on your blog that is the reason.
